Frequently asked questions

A help page customers can use to find answers to course access, training format, prerequisites and resources.

Yes. Campus tracks when you finish watching videos or download PDF tutorials or other resources. You can see your overall progress on the Dashboard page, and eLearning courses also show course progress in the top-lefthand corner of the page. 

Many eLearning course modules include review questions which you can use to confirm your understanding of the module's topic. Where available, review questions are displayed on the individual eLearning course pages.

After completing more than 80% of an eLearning course's content, you can download a certificate for that course from the Dashboard page.

Any eLearning courses in which you watched a video will be remembered and listed on the Dashboard page where you can track your progress through the course. Clicking Continue next to a course will jump you straight to the next video after the last one you watched.

If you prefer to select specific tutorial topics instead of following the course, you can simply bookmark any items of interest and return to them later. You can find and manage your bookmarks in the Account drop-down list.

Reviewing basic topics online before your training session means that you will have a basic product understanding and can prepare a list of questions ready for your instructor. This product preview and thinking about how your company will use XMPie products means that the training can be focussed on your specific needs and you will get much greater value from your time with the instructor. 

Much of the content in Campus requires a login. If you don't already have credentials to access Campus, contact your instructor as soon as possible to give yourself maximum preparation time.

PDF Tutorials

The Catalog page includes a carousel of PDF Tutorials that each include a PDF with step-by-step instructions and a ZIP containing all the resource files needed to complete the tutorial.

eLearning modules

Some eLearning modules (where the module name starts with "TUTORIAL") include a ZIP download of the sample files that are used in the video so you can follow along and replicate the example on your own computer. The zip will be listed in the "Downloads" panel next to the video.

Term Description
ador, adors, content object, content objects The ADOR or Content object is the item that is placed into a print/email/web/sms/video document to change text/graphic/style/visibility or other attributes dynamically. The ADOR can hold a value from a database or a value calculated by using logic or business rules.
asset source This refers to a collection of campaign assets - for example: images and formatted text files - and their location. You can define one or more asset sources for a single campaign.
assets An asset is a file (including graphic and text files) that is called into the document design by an ADOR or content objects. Files placed into the document that are not changed by ADORs are referred to as Resources.
Dashboard, /xmpiedashboard uProduce server environments use a standard interface called the Dashboard or XMPieDashboard. The URL to this interface is the main server or Director's server name, it's IP address, or domain name followed by /xmpiedashboard. For example, http://some_server_name/xmpiedashboard, http://10.10.10.300/xmpiedashboard or https://my.company.dom/xmpiedashboard
Dynamic Document, Dynamic Documents 1) The generated output from an InDesign or XLIM template that has been merged with data either using the desktop software (uCreate) or the XMPie production server system (uProduce). 2) Any document that requires information or images to change (including backgrounds) based on data or user input. 3) aka VDP Output.
logic, rule, business rule An expression that sets or computes the value of an ADOR or content objects for a given Recipient.
Omnichannel, transmedia, cross media When a marketing campaign uses multiple different media types to communicate with recipients, it can be called an omnichannel, transmedia or cross media campaign.
proofset, proof set A proofset is an XML-encoded table where columns represent ADORs/content objects and rows represent a set of calculated values for a recipient.
qlingo QLingo is a scripting language developed by XMPie, to allow powerful, but simple rules or logic to calculate the value of ADORs/content objects and variables.
recipient A recipient is typically a person who receives an individual instance of the document. If the document is static, all recipients receive identical copies; if the document is dynamic, each recipient receives a unique document instance, which has been personalized based on this recipient’s specific data. Alternatively, recipients can be a group of people (for example, a company), an event (for example, a company picnic), a place (for example, company branch, or a specific location) or a thing (for example, a product brochure). Often documents of this nature are referred to as versioned/customized rather than personalized.
uChart uChart can convert tabular data into bar, line or pie charts that can be used as part of the VDP project.
uCreate uCreate is the XMPie plug-in for Adobe InDesign that provides the ability to convert design documents into variable templates.
uDirect uDirect is XMPie's desktop solution that integrates with Adobe InDesign. uDirect includes uCreate Print by itself or together with uImage and uChart.
uImage uImage is an XMPie product that is available for desktop or server, and can use Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator to create personalized images that form part of a larger VDP project.
uProduce uProduce is XMPie's server-based software solution. The uProduce server is the central hub for VDP production, and optionally can include Web-to-print or Cross Media features.
variables Similar to an ADOR or Content object, a variable is an item that can hold a value from a database or a calculated value, but variables are used in the background by the plan file and not placed into the print/email/web/sms/video document.
VDP Variable Data Printing (Publishing or Production) is the ability to combine data and design to produce a document (print/images, email/sms, web) unique to the recipient.
W2P Web-to-Print - an online portal for customers to order print and other items.
x-dot, xdot X-DOT stands for XMPie Document Object Transparency which is a feature of XMPie print production that accurately reproduces transparent objects in the design (like shadow, feather and opacity).
xlim XLIM is a document format created by XMPie that can be composed and printed on the XMPie Server in a much faster and more efficient way than InDesign document files. While XLIM documents are much faster, they cannot support all of InDesign's features.
